Q: "I am never sure how smart to dress for an interview? Do I always need to wear a suit"?
Rabbit: " When you are attending an interview you are making a first impression that could have a huge impact on your interviewer’s final decision. I would advise you to wear a suit to all interviews no matter how informal you think they may be. As a general rule always dress one level up. You can always ask your GB consultant for the compnay dress code
Q: "When the interviewer asks about my weaknesses what should I say"?
Rabbit: " Try and think of them more as areas for development. Some weaknesses can actually be turned on their head and be regarded as strengths. For example, in a new job asking lots of questions to gain knowledge is better than being over confident from the start.
Similarly having a basic understanding of a package such as MS Excel shows you are computer literate and eager to develop skills further. If possible, it is a good idea to refer to a source of evidence for strengths and weaknesses. For example, it would be a good to say in my last appraisal my three ongoing areas for development were X, Y and Z".
Q: "I always get nervous before interviews can you offer me any advice"?
Rabbit: " The first bit of advice is avoid a last minute cigarette or drop of dutch courage to calm the nerves. The best way to overcome nerves is to prepare as well as you possibly can. Having evidence based examples to demonstrate you have the skills and experience the interviewer is looking for will help. It is also a good idea to have a dry run with a friend or a GB Solutions consultant who can help you with your preparation and point out any mannerisms you may display, especially when nervous."
Q: "Is it a bad thing to turn up for a interview ten minutes early"?
Rabbit: "An interview…… ten minutes early is good
It is important to remember that you are being assessed from the minute you arrive on site and arriving ten minutes early will give you the opportunity to arrive in a relaxed manner, as well as allowing for any last minute difficulties such as parking. It also eliminates any delay due to lengthy checking in procedures or a hold up at reception."
